Mystery Buzzards of the Western Cape

Welcome to the official website of the ‘Mystery Buzzard’!

This site has been set up to aid the current research by the Percy FitzPatrick Institute into the identity and ecology of a set of unidentified Buteo buzzards that are now resident breeders in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Please use the tabs above to explore the history of this phenomenon, learn how to identify the buzzards and view information on the current known range of the Mystery Buzzard.
Any information on sightings and especially nest sites of Mystery Buzzards and Forest Buzzards (around Knysna and east of there) would be received with great appreciation.

Thank you!
